Helmut Dittmann (1931–2000), abstract collage, paper on paper, dated 08.04.1987, lower left on the front. This work is unsigned but bears the official estate stamp on the reverse. Dittmann was a Berlin-Charlottenburg artist who studied at the Hochschule für bildende Künste Berlin and was appointed master student under Prof. Hans Uhlmann in 1956. He received two scholarships from the Akademie der Künste Berlin for residencies at the Villa Serpentara in Olévano Romano, Italy. His work spans painting, graphic art, collage and ceramic sculpture, and was shown in numerous exhibitions in Germany and abroad. This striking collage showcases Dittmann's intense and expressive visual language at its most powerful: hand-cut geometric forms in a rich, varied palette of blue, teal, red, ochre, white and earth tones are layered dynamically against a deep red painted ground, creating a composition of remarkable energy and depth.
