Folk art wedding chest, circa 1870

Central European pine wedding chest, probably German, circa 1870. This red and terracotta green color palette, typical of this style, is often found on Swedish and German painted furniture and evokes the Classical period. The flowers adorning the chest symbolize eternal life. As these chests also often served as seats, the paint on the lid has faded.
