Alsterfors was one of Scandinavia’s leading producers of mid-century modern art and design glass. Their glass design is known for strong colours and bold design, making their work highly sought after by vintage and retro lovers worldwide. A vintage glass vase or other design item from Alsterfors adds a unique style to any interior. The history of this glass factory is old, located in the heart of the Swedish glass kingdom and formed in 1886. Initially, a small iron mill was built here in the mid-19th century, which was closed after about 30 years. In 1886, a glass factory was built on the same site, producing coloured soda glass, semi- and full crystal glass. In the mid-1900s, they started to produce art glass and hired some of their most well-known artists, including Edvin Ollers (1931-32) and Per-Olof Ström (ca 1967-72). Ström’s work focused on functionalism and maintaining a high artistic level and world-class standard.
