We are delighted to offer for sale this superb chest of drawers, carefully hand-painted and carved from soapstone, with a lacquered marble top in Chinoiserie style reminiscent of Chinese Chippendale. This highly decorative chest is hand-carved with truly magnificent Chinoiserie scenes in soapstone. The top is made of Italian Carrara marble, which was fashionable during the Victorian era, demonstrating a following of contemporary trends. In terms of condition, it has been thoroughly cleaned, waxed, and hand-polished from top to bottom, presenting a natural patina due to age and honest use, and it appears perfectly period. Made during the export period to China around 1900-1920, when visiting dignitaries purchased unique artifacts.
