Description blue blown glass vase, scavo patina. Geographical provenance murano, probably for seguso vetri d'arte. Period circa 1970. Dimensions height 16.5 cm neck diameter 6.3 cm base diameter 7.2 cm "scavo" is a technique for imitating the patina of ancient glass found during archaeological excavations. A mixture of nitrate, carbonates and silica is deposited on the surface of the glass and then heated to around 800 degrees, giving this frosted appearance present on glass objects that have spent many years underground. First in the 1950s and then in the 1970s, some glassmakers on the island of murano created objects in the taste of the antique using this technique.
