The famous "Amsterdammer" was designed by Aldo van den Nieuwelaar (1978) and produced by Pastoe, a company known for its high-quality cabinets for over 100 years. The cabinet, with its distinctive striped roller door, has become a design classic. The name of this beautiful cabinet is no coincidence; the design references the famous bollards of Amsterdam that can be found all over the pavements. These posts were installed in the past because cars crashed into the facades. Aldo van den Nieuwelaar (1944-2010) was an architect and industrial designer. Various creations by Van den Nieuwelaar have been part of exhibitions at the Museum of Modern Art and the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam. This example comes from the first owner. Custom made (in one of Pastoe's original colours from the 70s) The Amsterdammer by Pastoe is primarily made of lacquered MDF for the cabinet frame and lacquered synthetic material for the distinctive roller door. These high-quality materials ensure a durable construction, in which the plastic slats can disappear into the cabinet. Despite the high-quality material, the cabinet shows signs of use consistent with its age. See the photos.
