Edward pearson shaw was the first manufacturer of mineral water in wakefield. In 1854 he moved to this city to take over the business of samuel sidney, a chemist and pharmacist. It produced sparkling water, lemonade thermal water and ginger beer under the name west riding soda manufactory. Then in 1870 he renamed his company the west riding mineral water manufactory and was specifically known for the production of mineral water and lithia water and vichy water. These beautiful decanters were therefore found mainly in pharmacies, breweries, grocery stores, hotels and other soft drink bottling plants.
