The Beni Ouarain carpet is undoubtedly the best-known Berber carpet. It is characterized by its thick wool in ecru tones and its diamond-shaped geometric patterns, often black or brown. However, we now find some with brightly colored patterns. Originally, the Beni Ouarain carpet was also characterized by its very large size. Indeed, the Beni Ouarain tribe comes from the Middle Atlas, so it is subject to a harsh climate. The carpets therefore served as mattresses and blankets, we rolled ourselves up in them to sleep and protect ourselves from the cold. The Beni Ouarain Berber carpet is made by hand on a loom. The woolen threads are tied one after the other, which requires a very long time to complete, which can range from several days to several months depending on its size.
