The terre de fer compotier that we offer you is the catinat model from the bourgeois earthenware factory. It represents a delicate floral decoration with clovers with their leaves and flowers. The stamps can be found under the base. Emile bourgeois (1832-1926) is the founder of the le grand dépôt store (1862) located in paris, rue drouot. This store nicknamed "la palais des arts du feu" was famous for its art objects, ceramics, earthenware and crystals that it sold to a wealthy clientele. This shallow dish with a pedestal base was used to elegantly and refinedly present fruits, desserts or compote, hence its name. It would be a great addition to petits fours on a nicely decorated table. It is in very good condition although dating from the end of the 19th century. It has no cracks or chips and the earthenware is not stained. Height: 10 cm diameter: 22 cm.
