Ancient Chinese grain chest in elm. Early 20th century. Rare ancient Chinese grain chest in solid elm, dating from the early 20th century, notable for its original orange hue, which is uncommon for this type of traditional utilitarian furniture. Originally designed for the storage of grains, this chest features a two-door front and two upper drawers, providing functional and structured storage. The original lacquer, applied using traditional techniques, has evolved over time into a warm palette, ranging from patinated orange to ochre and amber tones. This unique coloration, rarely preserved in this condition, gives the piece a luminous presence that is immediately identifiable. Natural wear, chips, and variations in material testify to its old and authentic use, without altering the structure. The whole retains a beautiful coherence and raw elegance, characteristic of Chinese domestic furniture. Due to its rare colour, this chest fits well in both contemporary and classic interiors, serving as a low sideboard, entrance furniture, additional storage, or decorative support.
