Pair of enamelled Japanese vases – Kutani, Japan, late 19th-early 20th century

Superb pair of large Japanese vases in glazed porcelain, richly decorated with floral scenes and birds, typical of the Kutani tradition, produced in Japan in the late 19th or early 20th century. The palette is particularly refined: deep turquoise greens, blues, iron reds, oranges, and black highlights, with great finesse in the design. The central reserves feature poetic landscapes animated by birds and vegetation, while the backgrounds are treated with stylised floral patterns and arabesques, very characteristic of Kutani productions intended for export during this period. The slightly flared collars with wavy edges enhance the elegance of the silhouette and give the whole a strong decorative presence, both as a pair and as isolated sculptural objects.
