Cast iron fireplace plate - winemaking - 1710

Large cast iron fireplace backplate. Depicts a scene of winemaking and tasting the first harvest. A couple appears to be dancing joyfully above a carafe of wine. Bundles of grapes lie on the ground, ready to be trodden. The man holds a cup in one hand and a bunch of grapes in the other. Above them, a circle of 10 stars. Stamped 1710. This is likely a copy made in the late 19th or early 20th century, given its very good condition (especially on the back). Dimensions: Width = 64 cm; Height = 85 cm; Thickness = 2.5 cm to 4 cm. Weight = approximately 65 kg. €490 including VAT, as sold. VAT recoverable.
