Alexandrite Murano Bullicante Bubbles Ash Tray - 1950s

Italian Murano ashtray from the 1950s. With air bubbles created using the Bullicante technique. Masterfully shaped. The ashtray is made of alexandrite/neodymium glass. This means that a substance has been added to the glass that absorbs yellow light. In daylight or normal lighting, the object is lilac/pink, in cold light (e.g. Fluorescent tubes and similar) the object is violet to light blue. The last pictures show the ashtray in the corresponding lighting conditions. 6 cm high. 18 cm diameter.
