A simple but beautiful brown stoneware jug with a handle, hand-thrown and finished with a warm, glossy iron-brown glaze. The potter’s throwing rings are still clearly visible. Jugs like this were used in the 19th century for genever, oil or vinegar. Some objects need no decoration: the shape and the glaze say enough. This jug has a lovely full belly and a colour that changes in every light. A classic in a wabi sabi, country or French brocante interior. Lovely with a large branch or pampas grass, or grouped with other jugs on the kitchen floor. Fine to use as a decorative object, with a hairline crack across the body. Also a few places where the glaze did not take during firing (glaze misses), small white spots and light wear to the rim. Four felt pads under the base.
