We have fully restored this set by adding small pieces of new veneer (where necessary) on all the chairs and lacquering them three times. More than 10% of the veneer had to be replaced, but you want to be circular and sustainable, right. The result is a fully upcycled set of the famous dining chairs by Carlo Ratti. A professional restorer spent days cutting the right pieces of veneer and reattaching them. Thus, 90% of the chairs are intact, and for the remaining 10%, we gave them an old Levi's 501 look where you can clearly see the multiple different restorations if you look closely. From a small distance, it's hard to see. As a dealer, I buy many pieces, and very often you can see old repairs in the veneer. When it's well done and you see those beautiful details after some time, it always brings me a bit of joy. It adds to the value because craftsmanship and work are something luxurious these days, and it means someone has put time and energy into something. It also contributes to the environmental and circular mindset that people have today. Why not make old chairs beautiful again instead of buying new ones. Such a restoration project just feels very right in a way. We hope you feel the same and love the final result as much as we do. About the chairs themselves: they bear some similarities to the Medea chairs by Vittorio Nobili due to the bent and curved wood. In the 1950s, this became increasingly popular when new production methods were invented. By steaming the plywood and placing it in a mold, it could be bent into almost any shape. The difference with the Medea chairs lies in the straight top of the backrest and seat, as well as in the groove in the middle of the seat where the wood meets. The groove is held in place by the metal frame. Note that this metal frame is still very original and still has the small cross metal connection at the bottom. Few sets have this, and it is still in very good condition. Smart shipping: we can detach the seat from the frame, which makes shipping much cheaper. Please let me know if this interests you, as the price is currently based on an assembled state. Note that we also have the Carlo Ratti dining table available, so you can create a cohesive set. The last photo shows it. The table is not part of this lot. Dimensions. Width: 46 cm. Height: 80 cm.
