Superb glazed stoneware champagne bucket made by Jean Maubrou (1900-1965), a ceramist from Saint-Amand-en-Puisaye, in Nièvre. This piece features an elegant flared shape, rhythmically accented by a succession of wide horizontal relief rings. Two small circular side handles, with geometric lines, complete this particularly original composition, in the Art Deco spirit. Its remarkable glazing combines shades of beige, ochre, and brown with subtle effects of celadon green and turquoise. The variations in texture, crystallizations, and firing effects add beautiful depth to the surface. Jean Maubrou (1900-1965) is an important figure in the ceramics of Saint-Amand-en-Puisaye. A student of Raoul Lachenal, he settled in 1923 in the former workshop of Jean Carriès, before building his own studio. There, he developed a production of artistic stoneware, particularly in the Art Deco style, and distinguished himself through his research on copper glazes, with red, green, and turquoise hues. After World War II, he resumed his activity before handing over his workshop to Georges Robin in the late 1950s. Jean Maubrou is referenced in the book "Grès de Puisaye, de Jean Carriès à nos jours – Marques et signatures, " dedicated to the potters and ceramists of the region. A beautiful collectible piece, both functional and sculptural, representative of the revival of artistic stoneware from Puisaye in the 20th century. Dimensions: Height: 21 cm. Diameter: 20 cm. Length: 20 cm. Condition: perfect condition. Origin: Saint-Amand-en-Puisaye, Nièvre, France.
