Submarine signature and handwritten dating under the work van lith 1998. Terracotta sculpture. Height: 29 cm. Length: 52 cm. Approximately 6 kilos. Please note the work has been restored. A former student of the Paris School of Applied Arts in Industry, he was successively a painter, ironworker, ceramist, glassmaker, writer, designer... As a glassmaker, he worked from 1979 to 1981 with Jean-Claude Novaro. In 1984 he created three decorations for plates and a porcelain dish in collaboration with the Manufacture Nationale de Sèvres. He was named Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres in 1985. Many of his works are part of the permanent collections of numerous museums. He is among others the author of Fil de Fer et Ferblanterie, Ceramics Encyclopedic Dictionary & "Masks of the World". In September 2013, during the Marseille Provence 2013; in the halls of the Hôtel de Manville, the first September exhibition of ceramics and glass where the works of Alice Colonieu, ceramist and sculptor of the 1950s, and Jean-Paul Van Lith were exhibited.
