An exquisite and refined box made of glazed ceramic in a range of ochre with sections inlaid with cracked gold enamel. The rectangular base of the box is made of black ebonised wood, partially covered with original emerald green felt. It is topped with a lid made of earthenware and stamped clay, adorned with a stylised bird design: a majestic Peacock (France, Circa 1963). A magnificent and large box for storing jewellery or any other precious items. It embodies the elegance and discreet luxury of the daily life of the famous French ceramist from Lunel, Mithé Espelt. If you are looking for an antique and unique item for your wedding, this vintage box will be ideal for holding your wedding rings on the big day, before becoming the elegant case for your jewellery set. 💡 Did you know Marie-Thérèse Espelt was born in Lunel (Hérault). She began her career in 1943 by creating ceramic buttons for haute couture collections in Paris. In 1946, she set up her ceramic workshop in her hometown. She married Maurice Figère, who left his career as a lawyer to follow her in her artistic venture. Together, they created everyday objects (jewellery boxes, mirrors) that they categorically refused to sign, so that they remained accessible to all. Today, Mithé's works are recognisable by their unique craftsmanship: cracked gold enamels and inlays of coloured glass that required up to four successive firings. Mithé Espelt worked until 2000, paving the way for her daughter, Marion de Crécy, who continued the spirit of the workshop. Very good condition. Please note: three small chips on the corners of the lid, barely visible. Magnificent shine of the enamel and original green felt perfectly intact under the base. 📏 Dimensions: Height: 6.5cm. Width: 10cm. Length: 27cm.
