Hand-painted ceramic vase circa 1955 by the ceramic art department of the harsa pottery in beersheba, israel. The vase is an early example of his design work and is considered quite rare. The vase is in excellent condition, except for a very slight old restoration, visible in the last photo. Height: 24 cm upper circumference: 8 cm lower circumference: 11 cm nehemia azaz also nehemiah, henri or nh azaz (9 october 1923 - 27 october 2008), was a sculptor, ceramist and architectural artist, who spent half of his working life in the united kingdom. Best known in israel as the founder of the artistic ceramics department at the harsa factory in beersheba, azaz set up his studio in oxfordshire, england, from the late 1960s, working in stained glass, wood, concrete, bronze, brass, copper and aluminum. Azaz founded and directed the ceramic art factory and training school "harsa" between 1955 and 1959.
