Owl whistle in zoomorphic terracotta

Here is a lovely terracotta owl with finely chiselled details. At first glance, one might think it is a figurine, but in fact, it is pierced in several places and also serves as a... whistle!! According to my research, it is a typical object of Mexican craftsmanship or at least from South America, a sort of ocarina in essence. It probably dates from the 1960s or 70s, an item of local craftsmanship brought back from a trip. It will delight collectors of owls or birds of prey, as well as enthusiasts of unusual musical instruments. This owl is in very good condition, with no cracks or chips, but there are irregularities in the material that testify to its handmade nature. It measures 12 cm in height, 6 cm in maximum width (at the trunk), and 4.5 cm in maximum thickness (at the base).
