Sculptural coffee table in wood and glass — circa 1970

This coffee table combines a rectangular clear glass top with two volute supports made of varnished veneered wood. The broad curves, low height, and the wood/glass combination reflect an organic vocabulary of modern furniture. No markings have been observed. Its design and provenance details suggest it dates from the 1970s-1980s, but do not allow for the identification of a workshop or country of manufacture. Each support features a rounded base with a wide curved return that meets the level of the top. The figured grain veneer, under a honey-toned varnished finish, complements the curves. The openings respond towards the centre of the table. Symmetry organises the piece. The transparency of the glass maintains the visibility of its interior volumes. The horizontal effect dominates despite the visual thickness of the supports. The structure is stable and shows some minor wear. The top is in good condition, with micro-scratches from use. Overall, the piece is in good condition, with alterations consistent with its age. This configuration with two large opposing volutes is relatively uncommon among the references currently observable on the market. This documentary rarity, combined with an immediately recognisable design, distinguishes this table within the unassigned vintage furniture. Its positioning thus falls within a demanding decorative register: that of anonymous pieces whose interest lies in the originality of construction, quality of presence, and ability to serve as a focal point in an interior. — Dimensions: H 35 × W 124 × D 65 cm.
