Old slipware plate: couple of peasants

This vintage plate represents the intimacy of a rustic interior: an elderly peasant couple, dressed in traditional Breton or Norman attire, sits by the hearth. The scene, modelled in relief and enhanced with bright colours under glaze, radiates a popular tenderness and an irresistible naive charm. The central decoration is set within a relief border featuring Art Nouveau scrolls, glazed in a bright leaf green — a striking contrast to the softness of the motif's tones. A beautiful piece of old barbotine, in the tradition of French earthenware from the late 19th to early 20th century. A small crack is noted on the reverse. Diameter: 21.6 cm.
