Bamboo and brass marquetry chest, Maison & Jardin Gallery, 1970

A very fine trunk from Galerie Maison & Jardin dating from the early 1970s. The bamboo marquetry creates a beautiful symmetry, with the shiny Asian-inspired brass handle adding a touch of glamour. Its design is typical of French Riviera decor, bamboo and brass being the signature of Galerie Maison & Jardin from the 1950s to the 1970s. The interior has been reupholstered in a black silk and linen fabric with floral motifs by Sahco. The trunk has been fully restored, revarnished, the brass cleaned and repolished, and is in exceptional condition. A highly decorative collector's item.
