During his life, his style evolved from strict romanticism to an early type of impressionism. Although parisian, his favorite places for painting were normandy, notably honfleur, le havre, rouen and granville. This work perfectly evokes this affection for the countryside. A young peasant woman, shown from behind, works in a farmyard.
