Elegant Japanese vertical chest of drawers with ten drawers made in Japan during the mid Showa period, circa 1950–1979. This type of furniture was traditionally used to store documents, tools, or small items in workshops, offices, or shops. Its tall and narrow shape allows for multiple compartments while maintaining a small footprint. Each drawer is equipped with metal shell-shaped handles, typical of mid-20th century Japanese utilitarian furniture. The structure is made from several types of wood used in functional Japanese furniture, including Kalopanax, Shorea, rubberwood, and Japanese cedar. This combination offered strength and lightness. The drawer fronts feature a warm grain that contrasts with the dark patina of the metal handles. The surface retains a beautiful natural patina with signs of use. Today, this piece can be used as a storage unit, workshop furniture, or decorative organiser in a contemporary interior. Details. Object type: Vertical Japanese chest of drawers. Origin: Japan.
