Vase by Nedo Scappini for Nuovo Rinascimento, Italy

Have you ever seen this same vase under the title Aldo Londi vase for Bitossi. Yes, you are right! It was an error on my part, and to my defence, vases with this same pattern have been attributed to Aldo Londi for Bitossi, even by reputable auction houses! But as my knowledge of ceramics continues to grow (and I love learning!), I can now tell you with almost certainty (modesty is in order given the vast amount of knowledge I still have to acquire) that this is a vase created in the 60s or 70s by the Nuovo Rinascimento workshop, whose founder and designer is Nedo Scappini. He also previously worked for Fratelli Fanciullacci, another very renowned pottery workshop. More than just a workshop, it was even a factory, as they exported numerous ceramics around the world. Indeed, Italian ceramics were highly sought after worldwide during those years. Nuovo Rinascimento closed its doors in the early 80s. This wonderful large glazed ceramic vase showcases great mastery, both in the work of the glaze colour in blue and green tones and in the very fine decorative patterns, with beautiful reliefs, that form friezes all around the vase. This vase has not passed through the decades without blemishes; it should be adopted with its flaws, meaning it has 5 chips or nicks on the glaze (two on the upper rim, two on the body, and one on the lowest frieze) but fortunately, they are located on the same section (1/4 of the circumference), which still allows for displaying this vase without the defects being too noticeable! Alternatively, consider a small restoration by a professional, and this vase is well worth it, as it is so beautiful. It measures 25.5 cm in height, approximately 17 cm in diameter at the body, and 11 cm in diameter at the opening.
