Persian Isfahan wool and silk rug, circa 1950. High quality lambswool velvet called "kork" and silk, made on silk. Delicate rug with central ivory medallion inlaid with scrolls, garlands of arabesque flowers surrounding a sky/night blue starry medallion on a poppy red background. These rugs are made in the city of Isfahan in southwest Iran. They are considered today to be among the most beautiful Persian rugs. They are characterized by a very high density, richly detailed patterns and high quality materials. Dimensions: 160x100 cm. Condition: worn edges and selvedges, some white knots visible in the red background, wear on the fringes shortened by time.
