Vintage Hand-Woven Middle Eastern Oriental Isfahan Rug, 1940s

The hand-woven Persian Isfahan-style carpet, dating back to the 1940s. Its decorative, exceptionally dense floral composition—characteristic of Isfahan’s urban weaving tradition—is built around a central medallion and unfolds into a rhythmic, almost painterly botanical pattern. While the carpet possesses a distinctly classic Persian character, its refined, muted palette allows it to blend seamlessly into contemporary interiors. It features natural dyes; burgundy reds, deep navy, smoky blue, subdued greens, dusty pinks, ivory, and soft yellows create a multi-layered composition whose colors have acquired a natural, gentle patina over time. The focal point of the field is a large, intricate medallion from which the design appears to radiate outward. Surrounding it is a dense network of winding stems, leaves, flowers, and arabesque forms. The ornamentation leaves almost no empty space; the motifs overlap to create the effect of an ornamental "garden." Elaborate floral sections in the corners visually link the central composition to the border. The wide, dark border is filled with a fine, rhythmic pattern of flowers and arabesques, framed on both sides by several narrow decorative bands. The navy-and-burgundy background contrasts sharply with the carpet's lighter interior, providing a bold, architectural frame for the entire piece. The rug is in original vintage condition. Its state of preservation is consistent with its age. There are visible signs of use, natural surface irregularities, localized areas of wear, and the kind of fraying along the fringes and edges typical of older rugs.
