Curon cup or goblet, birth or baptism gift for a boy, numbered with the monogram “MR”, in 1st grade solid silver, gilded inside (vermeil), Lagriffoul et Laval silversmiths in Paris (157 rue du Temple), Art Deco, 1920s-1930s. - Monogram intaglio on the cup: “MR”; 1st grade Minerva hallmark (950 ‰ silver) on the cup; Master silversmith hallmark with the initials “L&L” and three stars in a triangle (Lagriffoul et Laval, active from 1899 to 1972) under the cup; Inscription engraved under the cup: “13 / 52” (to be identified); Hallmark inside the cup (to be identified). - Height 7.5 cm; diameter 6 cm; weight 90 g (silver price trend rising, as of April 3, 2025: 1 g = €1.19, as of May 27, 2025: 1 g = €1.10). - Used condition. The geometric design emanating from this elegant cup, well-proportioned and with simple decoration, is characteristic of the Art Deco style in the 1920s and 1930s. This precious metal cup is a testament to an ancient, centuries-old practice in wealthy circles: the godfather or godmother offered it as a present to their godson, on the occasion of their baptism, as a sign of blessing and a promise of a prosperous future. The souvenir object, to be kept for a lifetime, becomes the first in their trousseau; it must also introduce them to the love of beautiful objects.
