La Colombe mug

Handcrafted glazed terracotta cup in blue and brown tones, made in France at the Poterie de la Colombe, in excellent condition. Height 11cm, diameter 11cm. The Poterie de la Colombe is a ceramics workshop created and produced in the 1950s/60s by Madeleine Brault in Orriule, in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques. We particularly love the elegance that its raw and minimalist side confers. Production has now ceased. The Poterie de la Colombe is distinguished by its glazed stoneware and the abstract tachist motifs that characterise it. There is also a line with more naive motifs depicting a woman in a garden, a style very characteristic of the late 1970s. The majority of the production is available in ochre, greige, and the famous coloured splashes of beautiful khaki or dark brown. There are also "blues," including its famous blue de Chine inspired by oriental ceramics.
