Asparagus dish HBC (Hippolyte Boulenger & Cie), 1920-1955

Antique asparagus dish in French faience, stamped HBC (Hippolyte Boulenger & Cie), model Rose Marie. An emblematic specialised piece of early 20th-century table art, now rare and highly sought after. This oval dish features a ribbed base, originally designed for serving asparagus, highlighted by an elegant interplay of green and red lines. The border is richly decorated with the Rose Marie pattern, consisting of stylised red roses and deep green foliage, set against an ivory background with an aged patina. The decoration, both generous and graphic, gives the piece a strong decorative presence. Dated from the 1920s to 1955, this dish reflects a production still very much attached to traditional shapes and floral decorations, while fitting into the aesthetics of the interwar period. In beautiful vintage condition, with visible crazing, signs of age, and traces of use, including two hairline cracks, consistent with the age and charm of the piece (see photos).
