An elegant fine earthenware footed plate with a blue decoration on an ivory ground, stamped E. Bourgeois – Paris & Marseille, Excelsior pattern, dating from the late 19th century. The Excelsior pattern features a highly refined floral and ornamental motif, typical of the Neo-Rococo style popular during the Third Republic. Deep blue vegetal arabesques stand out against a slightly patinated ivory background, highlighted by a network of old crackles that lend it an authentic charm. This pattern exemplifies the high quality of the earthenware produced for this department store specializing in tableware. The stamp E. Bourgeois – Paris Marseille – Excelsior allows us to date it between 1880 and 1900, a period of great activity for the Grand Dépôt and the widespread distribution of ironstone services with printed blue decoration. The Marseille designation places the plate after 1879, the year the branch opened in Marseille. Diameter 21.5 cm, height 5 cm, base diameter 13.5 cm, height 5.5 cm. In good overall condition for its age, bright, no cracks or chips, but with patina and signs of age (see photos). A rare antique piece that blends beautifully with modern interiors, combining heritage charm with a slow decor aesthetic.
