Art Deco mirror Leglas-Maurice in solid wood ā Nantes manufacture
šŖ Art Deco Mirror Leglas-Maurice ā Nantes Manufacture ā 1920s-1930s. Very beautiful antique wall mirror from the Leglas-Maurice manufacture, a renowned French furniture house, identifiable here by the stencilled mark still present on the back. ⨠Its silhouette is particularly elegant: a vertical rectangular shape topped with a wide curved pediment, featuring two small geometric notches on either side. A sober and architecturally structured composition characteristic of the Art Deco vocabulary. šŖµ The mirror is entirely surrounded by a solid brown wood frame with clean lines. The wood has a beautiful warm hue and visible grain, simply highlighted by a discreet inner moulding. š¤ The absence of superfluous ornamentation particularly enhances the design of the frame: right angles, notches, and a large upper arch compose the decor on their own. š The true interest of this piece also appears on the reverse. The wooden back panel retains its original Leglas-Maurice marking, allowing for precise identification of its provenance. š·ļø It notably reads "Manufacture F. Leglas-Maurice ā Nantes ā Rue de Briord, 9 ā Paris ā Boulevard Voltaire, 174 bis". The Parisian address at 174 bis Boulevard Voltaire is also documented in the official catalogue of the 1900 Exposition Universelle, while 9 Rue de Briord corresponded to the Nantes store of the house. š«š· Leglas-Maurice is among the great French furniture houses of its time. The Nantes manufacture became one of the main French companies in the sector by the end of the 19th century and also worked on the fitting out of ocean liners. Its activity continued until after the Art Deco period before ceasing after the Second World War. š¢ The house notably carried out fittings for several major French ocean liners.
