Organic Bowl Chřibská Josef Hospodka

Masterpiece of Bohemian glass art from the Mid-Century Modern period, heavy and highly sculptural. This large ashtray or centrepiece was designed by the master glassmaker Josef Hospodka for the famous Czechoslovak manufacture Chřibská Glassworks during the 1960s. It perfectly embodies the organic "Medusa" style characteristic of the artist, featuring a wide, free collar with wavy and scalloped edges that play spectacularly with light. The piece employs the prestigious Sommerso technique, encasing a bicolour core in vibrant shades of fuchsia pink and amethyst purple within a thick and heavy translucent crystal shell. The faceted base is hot-cut to ensure perfect stability. Designer: Josef Hospodka. Manufacture: Chřibská Glassworks (Czechoslovakia) Period: Circa 1960. Dimensions: 26 cm in diameter. Height: 14 cm.
