Pair of Monumental Spanish Brutalist Wall Sculptures in Painted Iron, circa 1970. A monumental pair of Spanish Brutalist wall sculptures dating from the late 1960s to early 1970s. Executed entirely in painted sheet metal mounted on a tubular iron framework, the compositions consist of repeating geometric circular forms arranged in a striking modular architectural grid. Each panel is constructed from intersecting curved metal elements creating rhythmic orbital and eye-shaped motifs, suspended within an exposed black tubular structure that enhances the sculptural linearity of the design. The hand-applied painted finish in terracotta red, ochre, cream, and black gives the works a rich tactile surface and a strong Mediterranean modernist character. The sculptures reflect the growing influence of geometric abstraction, Op Art, and Space Age aesthetics within Spanish decorative arts during the 1960s and 1970s. Their bold repetitive forms and architectural scale recall the experimental ironwork and abstract wall compositions produced for modern residences, hotels, and public interiors throughout Spain during the period. Although static in construction, the layered arrangement and openwork structure create a strong sense of visual movement, producing changing patterns of light and shadow depending on the viewing angle. The combination of industrial tubular iron with handcrafted painted sheet metal embodies the expressive material language associated with Spanish Brutalism of the era. The pair retains its original painted surface with a beautifully aged patina consistent with age and use, enhancing the sculptural depth and authenticity of the works. An exceptional statement installation for collectors of Spanish modernism, Brutalist design, and large-scale architectural wall art.
