Charles-Théodore Sauvageot graphite river landscape

Original work signed Ch. Sauvageot, for Charles-Théodore Sauvageot (1826–1883), French painter, illustrator and lithographer, student of Eugène Isabey. This finished drawing in graphite on tinted paper, measuring 12 X 9 cm, depicts a calm river landscape with boats, figures and vegetation in the background. The scene is balanced, luminous and rendered with a precise line, typical of compositions conceived for themselves, and not as preparatory studies. Sauvageot exhibited regularly at the Salon des artistes français from 1863, and his works are held in several French museums.
