2 iconic red glazed ceramic candlesticks from the "Continua" series by Cari Zalloni for Steuler. Rare model with black underside. These candlesticks were designed to hold different sizes of candles (see photos - candles are not part of the purchase). Dimensions: height 10 cm • diameter 7.5 cm. Stamped below with the Steuler monogram, model 148/10 (10 representing the height). In very good condition. Differences may be present due to their semi-handcrafted nature. (see photos) *** About Cari Zalloni: Austrian designer who is perhaps best known as the creator and head designer of Cazal Eyewear, the iconic eyewear brand. He was born in Athens in 1937 to a father of Greek-Italian descent and an Austrian mother. His career began in 1960 after studying design at the Academy of Applied Arts in Vienna. He first worked in furniture in Siena, Italy, before moving to Germany in 1962 to design decorative glassware and three highly successful pottery lines for Steuler: "Zyklon, " "Facette, " and "Continua." Zalloni died in 2012. About Steuler: The company was founded by Georg Steuler in Höhr-Grenzhausen in 1917. Steuler reached its artistic peak in the 1960s and 1970s and became best known for the Cari Zalloni series. Most of Steuler's vases are of above-average quality. The base features an ST monogram in relief. Until 1966, Steuler was based in Höhr-Grenzhausen. From 1994 to 1996, ceramics were manufactured by the company Tonart Ververs, but this company ceased to exist in 1996.
