Old carved wooden shepherd's chest, domed lid, around 1900.
Ancient wooden chest, probably a shepherd's chest, dated around 1900. Its origin remains uncertain: it could be Alpine or come from Eastern Europe (Transylvania). It is a regional handcrafted work, full of charm. The front is engraved with floral patterns and arabesques. The domed lid is also engraved and closes with a beautiful wooden peg system. The chest is entirely assembled with pegs, using boards inserted together as well as in spans. Nothing is glued. It has retained its patina and old varnish. It is in good general condition for its age, with signs of long use. Notable points include: - numerous woodworm holes, and areas quite worn on the feet; the whole is stabilized and has received preventive treatment against pests; - old repairs with wood paste; - the lid does not stay open by itself; - inside, there remains an old trace of red wax. Dimensions: 69 cm (76 cm with the lid) x 46 cm x 37 cm (45 cm with the lid). Careful packaging. I answer all your questions regarding the items and their delivery.
