French-made, hand-carved, mid-19th century, china cabinet-style storage unit. Originating from Brittany, with a scene of everyday life in bas-relief. Antique Bedel & Compagnie storage unit labels on the back of the unit. Removable upper section composed of 11 small spinning tops and a shelf with a back decorated with floral motifs. The central section consists of a drawer with a bronze handle and a cupboard door. Door decorated in bas-relief, depicting a man and a woman from a country life scene circa 1850. The four corners are openwork. A functional period lock allows the unit to be locked. Inside, a storage shelf. Lower section offers storage with balusters composed of 23 spinning tops. Back carved from solid wood, with leaf motifs. Antique dresser cabinet in solid chestnut wood. This piece of furniture was deposited at the famous public furniture repository Bedel et Compagnie, 18 rue Saint Augustin in Paris, a guarantee of high quality for this unique piece. Numerous details and meticulous work on all parts of this piece. In the center, the bas-relief sculpture of a scene from life bears witness to another era. This piece is in very good condition considering its period. On the top, two visible holes suggest that it was once used to hold a pediment or other finishing element. Minor flaws should be noted on the upper part; the shelf support is partial, and the top has a crack. Sound and solid, very well preserved.
