Large Buffet Mirror or Psyche in Henri II Style, Carved Walnut, Late 19th Century. Elegant and imposing mirror in the Henri II style, made of richly carved walnut, dating from the late 19th century. This piece of cabinetry reflects the revival of French Renaissance aesthetics, highly valued during the second half of the 19th century. The mirror is framed by majestic architecture. The upper pediment is adorned with a significant carved entablature featuring leafy motifs and a central shell, topped with two side wings and three pear-shaped pinnacles, giving the whole piece great verticality and a monumental character. The bevelled glass, likely original, is flanked on either side by superb twisted columns, finely carved with spiral fluting, resting on moulded bases. The lower part features a richly carved lower rail with scrollwork and a central cartouche. Two small drawers, equipped with turned wooden pull knobs, are integrated on each side, adding discreet functionality to the piece. These drawers are also decorated with carved motifs on the front, echoing the overall ornamentation of the furniture. The quality of the carving and the depth of the walnut's patina highlight the meticulous craftsmanship of this era. This mirror, with its dimensions and assertive style, was intended to adorn a large dining room buffet or serve as a psyche in a bourgeois interior of the late 19th century.
