Opaline box

Opaline box, used to store small trinkets, jewellery, or as decorative accessories on vanities and tables. This particular piece, with its detailed moulded pattern of berries and a bow, is indicative of the Victorian and Edwardian eras' penchant for ornate and decorative household items. It is also known as marble glass, a type of glass that was popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It is characterised by its opaque, swirling colours, often achieved by adding metallic oxides during the glass-making process. This technique created unique marbled effects that were highly sought after for decorative objects.
