I am selling this indoor fountain made of faience, a refined and elegant decorative object. This piece will bring a touch of authenticity and charm to your interior. Type of object: Indoor fountain. Material: Faience. Era: 18th century. Style: Louis XIII, XIV, XV, XVI Decor: Blue and gold patterns, rococo ornaments. Characteristics: Upper basin with lid, flared base. Very good condition. This object is an indoor fountain (or apartment fountain) in faience, complete with its upper reservoir, lid, and matching pedestal. Here are some interesting details about this type of piece: Object characteristics. The reservoir (the urn): This is the upper part that held the water. You can see a small circular opening at its base: it is designed to accommodate a small tap, usually made of brass or bronze. The pedestal (or base): It elevates the fountain to place it directly on the floor, often in the corner of a room (as is the case here). The decor: This is a Neo-Renaissance style (most likely inspired by Italian majolica from Deruta or Urbino, or from French manufacturers like Desvres or Moustiers that adopted these codes). The patterns combine blue and yellow arabesques on a white background, with a medallion in the centre depicting a profile of a soldier or a helmeted knight. A bit of history. In the 18th and 19th centuries, before the arrival of running water in all rooms, these fountains were placed in dining rooms or salons. They allowed guests to elegantly wash their hands before sitting down to eat. Today, these pieces have become superb collector's items and decorative objects, adding a touch of old-world charm and colour to an interior. Please feel free to contact me for more information or additional photos. The measurements are approximate, as the object is circular and difficult to measure.
