Adorable small mahogany-style chest of drawers, with its marble top.

Magnificent small chest of drawers in mahogany and white marble (early 20th century). One immediately notices the ideal proportions of this chest of drawers. Compact and with limited depth, it gives it a lot of style and makes it much more practical than bulky chests that can be difficult to place. It has also been made according to the rules of the art, probably by a craftsman from Faubourg St Antoine in Paris. In any case, it is of very fine quality. Resting on four tapered and fluted legs, each fitted with brass, it features fluted uprights and is topped with a beautiful marble whose curves match those of the uprights. Its whiteness contrasts with the very warm brightness of the blond mahogany wood, which is enhanced by the shine of the bronzes and brass strips that "close" the interiors of the drawer fronts as well as the side panels. Everything works really well. It opens with three drawers, each equipped with golden pull handles and finely chiseled lock entries. A separate key allows for the opening and closing of the last two drawers, but the lock of the first one is defective. Aside from that, the drawers slide well and the bottoms are made of oak, which proves the quality of the piece. One notes the thick strip that outlines the silhouette of this chest of drawers like a feminine waist, wrapping around the uprights and then extending to the sides. I searched for a stamp for a long time as this piece seems to deserve one, but to no avail. There is a grayer area on the marble to the right, but I cannot determine if it is a natural vein or an old repair. In any case, the marble is of impeccable solidity and visually, it is not bothersome. Aside from that and some signs of use, it is in superb condition. L: 100 cm. H: 84 cm. D: 41 cm.
