One of the most iconic chairs ever designed: the Round Chair, also known as The Chair or JH501. This chair was designed in 1949 by Hans J. Wegner and produced by Johannes Hansen. Its seat is made of hand-woven rattan, and its structure is artisanally shaped from solid oak. Thanks to a refined wood assembly, the armrests and backrest form a single continuous semi-circular piece. As a result, the chair appears to lack a backrest; it is a masterpiece from every angle. Wegner aimed to create a clean and typically Danish chair, with carefully studied shapes and proportions, thus giving birth to The Chair. A little anecdote: in the year of its creation, an American journalist referred to the Round Chair as the "most beautiful chair in the world." It was the first time modern Danish design was mentioned in the American press. The Round Chair quickly became one of the most sought-after creations in the United States and marked the beginning of Danish furniture export. In 1960, Richard Nixon and John F. Kennedy used it during their first televised debate. At that time, the chair was simply known in the United States as "The Chair": the archetype of the modern chair. Marked and in very good condition. The wicker seat has been replaced. L 63 X D 53 X H 75 cm. Source of the last 3 images.
