This Danish desk was designed by Svend Åge Madsen for H. P. Hansen during the 1960s. The piece is a characteristic example of Scandinavian modernism, combining functionality with an elegant form and carefully crafted woodworking details. The desk is crafted from teak wood and features a large rectangular tabletop with gently rounded corners, decorative wood grain and a distinctive, slightly raised edge along the back. The subtly sculpted edges give the tabletop an elegant, streamlined appearance. Beneath the tabletop are two symmetrically arranged drawer units, each containing four spacious drawers. The drawer fronts feature distinctive elongated recessed wooden handles. The upper drawers are fitted with locks, allowing documents and smaller items to be stored securely. The central kneehole is positioned between the two drawer units. Its upper section features a gently curved, sculpted structural element that highlights the refined craftsmanship of the piece. The desk also features a carefully designed rear section with an open storage area divided into two compartments. The larger compartment contains a long shelf, while the smaller side compartment includes an additional shorter shelf and a lockable cabinet. This arrangement makes the desk suitable for freestanding placement in the centre of a room, allowing its decorative construction to be appreciated from every angle. The entire structure rests on slender, tapered legs connected to gracefully sculpted frame elements. The open construction gives the desk a sense of visual lightness despite its extensive storage capacity. The desk has undergone professional furniture restoration. The wooden surfaces were stripped of the old coating and subsequently finished with high-quality Danish oil, enhancing the natural colour and grain of the teak wood. One key is included. Thanks to its timeless design and practical arrangement of drawers and shelves, the desk is ideally suited to a study, home office or professional workspace. It is an interesting example of Danish Mid-Century Modern design, where aesthetics and functionality are harmoniously combined.
