1980s chaise longue by Tord Björklund for IKEA

An expressive 1980s chaise longue designed by Tord Björklund for IKEA. The design is defined by its sculptural, almost architectural silhouette: a slender black steel frame carrying a continuous cushion that follows the curves of the body. The original steel structure has been preserved, while the entire cushion—including its padding and upholstery—has been newly made. I chose a bold jacquard with an abstract geometric pattern as a playful nod to the graphic language of the 1980s. The new upholstery gives the chaise longue a fresh and contemporary character without losing its original identity. The flip-over headrest provides additional support and emphasises the distinctive profile of Björklund’s design. A characterful and comfortable vintage piece, professionally rebuilt and ready for use. The original frame shows minor traces of age consistent with its history.
