Painted wooden work table, Napoleon III period – mid 19th century

This coffee table is captivating due to the elegance of its highly decorative top, with rounded corners highlighted by scrolls and golden fillets. In its centre, a large raised oval medallion features a finely gilded landscape scene, framed by a refined decoration. The top opens with a functional lock, accompanied by its finely crafted key. Inside the flap, an oval mirror framed by a delicate garland of pearls adds a touch of preciousness. The storage space is structured into three compartments, designed for the organisation of necessary items. The front of the piece, also lively and curved, is decorated with graceful arabesques framing an animal scene where birds and flowers interact in a poetic composition. The underside features a discreet and functional drawer. The entire piece rests on four curved legs, connected by a cross stretcher, each ending in an elegant scroll.
