Large enamelled stoneware ashtray - Serra, Catalonia - 1970

Large glazed ceramic ashtray signed "Serra" from the Catalan production of the second half of the 20th century. A beautiful piece with simple lines and a concentric brown and black decoration on a speckled beige background, typical of the productions from the Serra workshop. The wide and low shape with three notches gives it a lovely decorative presence. It can also be used as a catch-all. Handwritten signature “Serra” under the base. Enrique Serra y Abella (1908-1986) comes from a family of famous Catalan ceramists. A museum in Catalonia is dedicated to their works. Very good overall condition. Slight signs of use.
