Large antique Gien hollow dish, Chardons blue model – fine 19th century earthenware

Superb large earthenware bowl signed Gien, "Chardons" pattern, circa 1875–1890. Its delicate blue monochrome decoration on an ivory background highlights the stylized thistles—a symbol of strength and wild elegance. The motif unfolds in slight ribbed relief, surrounded by a delicate floral frieze on the rim. Made using the opaque porcelain technique, typical of the Gien factory in the late 19th century, this bowl perfectly illustrates the naturalistic taste of the period. Stamped Porcelaine Opaque de Gien – Chardons. Diameter 30 cm, height 7 cm. Beautiful vintage condition, with a patina of age related to its age, some fine firing cracks, and a chip on the underside that is barely visible when the bowl is placed on the table (see photos).
