Pair of Functionalist Bedside Cabinets, c. 1940–1955
Pair of Functionalist Bedside Cabinets, c. 1940–1955. A rare pair of functionalist bedside cabinets featuring tubular steel frames, original glass tops, drop-front doors and black Bakelite-style knobs. The cabinets retain their original wooden ball feet, an unusual and distinctive design detail. The design shows clear influences from the European Modernist and Bauhaus movements, combining tubular steel, wood, glass and Bakelite in a highly architectural composition. Most likely of Central European or Scandinavian origin, dating from the mid-20th century, circa 1940–1955. Dimensions (each): Height: 54 cm. Width: 43.5 cm. Depth: 40 cm. Original vintage condition with age-related wear consistent with use and age. The original glass tops have a few minor edge chips. They can be included with the sale, but due to the risk of damage during transport, they are shipped entirely at the buyer's risk and no guarantee can be given regarding their safe arrival. Photos are shown both with and without the glass tops.
